Privacy
This is my personal website. I don't sell anything here, and I don't sell or share what I learn about visitors. This page says what the site collects and who else sees it.
What the site records
When you visit, the site records the visit in its own database: the pages you open, the page or campaign link that sent you here, your browser and device, and a shortened IP address with its last part removed (203.0.113.0, not 203.0.113.42). It also notes when someone presses "Find a time" or submits the newsletter form, but not the email address typed into it. I use this to see which pages people read and what brings them here.
If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, the site records none of this.
It sets three cookies for this:
ahoy_visitorrecognises a returning browser. It lasts two years.ahoy_visitgroups the pages of one visit. It lasts four hours._krishnan_sessionkeeps the site working while you browse, and keeps you signed in if you have an account. It ends when you close your browser.
Other services that see your visit
- Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it from abuse, so it handles every request.
- Google Analytics: the pages load Google's analytics tag, which sends Google your visit.
- New Relic measures how fast pages load and records errors in your browser.
- Honeybadger and GlitchTip receive a report when the site itself fails. GlitchTip is my own error tracker; its reports leave out cookies, form contents, IP addresses and link parameters. Honeybadger's can include details of the request.
Each of these handles data under its own privacy policy.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to my writing, your email address goes to Buttondown, which sends the newsletter. This site doesn't keep it. Every issue has a link to unsubscribe.
Accounts
Sign-up is closed. A few older accounts can still sign in, by password or with Google. For those, the site keeps the email address, a scrambled form of the password, and the times and IP addresses of recent sign-ins.
If you write to me, I keep your message as I would any other email.
Your choices
You can block or clear cookies in your browser; the site still works without them. To see or delete what the site holds about you, email me at ajay@krishnan.ca.
Changes
If what the site collects changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
